About the role

The Shop Manager oversees MTB’s shop projects and personnel, coordinates repair, rebuild, and recontrol work, and maintains high standards of craftsmanship. The role combines team leadership, technical problem-solving, and direct communication with customers.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage all MTB shop projects.
  • Manage all MTB shop personnel.
  • Schedule shop personnel for service work as needed.
  • Communicate with customers to provide updates on shop projects and clarify project details.
  • Direct, but not necessarily personally perform, the training of new shop or service personnel as required.
  • Handle hiring and dismissal of shop employees as needed.
  • Provide direction and technical support to shop and field service personnel to resolve project or field service problems.
  • Schedule and project-manage shop repair, rebuild, and recontrol projects.
  • Oversee and verify parts ordering for shop and service projects.
  • Oversee quality control on shop projects and verify that craftsmanship meets MTB’s high standards.
  • Assist with improving control of job inventory placement and electronic database management for used parts.
  • Provide technical support to customers as required.
  • Coach and mentor service and shop personnel as required.

Knowledge of the following machine tool technologies and practices:

  • Bearing types and bearing fits.
  • Hand scraping technology.
  • Machine tool alignments and alignment tolerances.
  • Machine leveling techniques.
  • Hydraulic, hydrostatic, and pneumatic system technologies and devices.
  • Machine tool safeguarding principles.
  • Way types and way repair technologies.
  • Spindle systems and spindle technologies, from low to ultra-high speed.
  • Basic machine tool operation and usage.
