Machine Tool Builders is offering this Lorenz MCS-60 Gear Shaping Machine, Serial No. 14789, in as-is condition. The machine was fully recontrolled by MTB in 2016 and is equipped with a Siemens Sinumerik 840D platform with digital drives and modernized axis control. Because we executed the prior recontrol ourselves, we are intimately familiar with its electrical architecture, motion control strategy, and shaping software integration. This is not an unknown quantity — it is a platform we have already engineered and supported.
The MCS-60 is a true Multi-Cutting-System generating shaper with full nine-axis coordination, including X (Depth), Y (Column Offset), Z (Elevation), C (Cutter Rotation), D (Table Rotation), A (Relief), O (Stroking Motion), L (Stroke Length), and Q (Spindle Perpendicularity). The control architecture provides electronic gear train functionality between cutter and table, programmable generating cycles, spiral or plunge infeed, stepped and digressive radial infeed, automatic segment shaping, single-index shaping, and coordinated stroke management. The result is a highly capable 600 mm class shaping platform with modern CNC intelligence layered onto classic Lorenz mechanical rigidity.
Mechanically, the machine is suitable for shaping spur and helical internal and external gears, segments, tapered serrations, and similar profiles up to 24" (600 mm) pitch diameter and up to 2.4 DP (10 module) in steel. With its robust 35 kW main drive, fully automatic work cycles, and electronic generating coordination, this machine represents substantial shaping capacity in a proven German platform. Offered as-is, with MTB technical familiarity and support available as required, it presents a practical opportunity to acquire large-capacity shaping capability without the uncertainty typically associated with legacy control systems.
